Statement to the Press
4 August 2009
The family and friends of David Hill were disappointed by the denial
of the leave to appeal. However, we take heart from the judges’
positive comments that the defence evidence was “capable of belief”
and that the crown prosecution conceded a significant amount of their
forensic evidence was flawed.
We are still determined to prove David’s innocence and continue this
fight for justice.
Molly’s daughters are acutely aware and distressed that this means
that their mother’s brutal killer is still at large.
We are prepared to give a substantial financial reward to anyone
providing information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the
real murderer. Details can be passed on by the website or by telephoning 07541637717.

The family of David Hill remain fully supportive of him and are absolutely confident he is not guilty of this offence despite the Jury’s verdict.
They know David better than anyone and know better than anyone his relationship with Molly Wright. He is a caring, loving and well loved husband to Maxine and father to their two boys.
Both the daughters of Molly Wright continue to have full confidence in him and stand by him.
We, his solicitors intend to continue efforts to ensure that this conviction is reviewed. We have grave concerns arising out of the evidence that emerged at the trial, not least because the West Yorkshire Police claim to have lost vital briefing notes prepared in the early stages of the inquiry. These notes should have been preserved as documents in the case. We asked for these briefing notes because they were vital in determining whether certain evidence was admissible or properly obtained and during the trial the Senior Investigating Officer was obliged to concede that the loss of these briefing notes was “a very unsatisfactory state of affairs“.
We will be looking closely at this issue and flaws in the scientific investigation.
It has to be remembered that this was a circumstantial evidence case and we remain unhappy about areas of the evidence which amounted to speculation and which may have been very damaging from the Jury’s point of view.
We are considering with Leading and Junior Counsel, Robert Smith QC and Neil Clarke, launching an appeal on behalf of Mr Hill. We will also consider other areas of investigation which can be pursued.
This has obviously been a very difficult time for all the family who would now appeal to the media to respect their privacy.
